The election of Trump is bad news for China'seconomy, which already is struggling. Under these circumstances, China seems likely to take a pass for now on expansionism in general within Africa. On the other hand, the forecast horizon is far enough away that Xi and Trump might strike a deal that would have the unintended effect of making a new African military base appealing to Xi.
