Review Question
Based on Meta's 2024 threat disruption reports, from where will the majority of AI influence operations focusing on the US presidential election originate?
Answer | Initial Probability |
---|---|
Russia | 33% |
Another foreign country, excluding Russia | 33% |
United States | 33% |
Meta tracks disinformation threats on their platform arising from “coordinated inauthentic behavior networks,” which use fake accounts in covert influence operations that are designed to manipulate public debate (Meta). Ahead of the EU parliamentary elections, Meta's first quarter report in 2024 highlighted:
"The majority of the EU-focused inauthentic behavior we’ve disrupted so far has been domestic in nature (i.e., Croatia)... On the foreign threats side, the attempts we’ve seen so far [including from Russia] were primarily focused on undermining support for Ukraine among the EU member states, rather than directly targeting the EU parliamentary elections."
Resolution criteria:
Question will be based on a review of the reports found on Meta’s Threat Disruption transparency page. The question will resolve based on information from any of the 2024 reports. We will look for language similar to the Q1 2024 report quoted above that indicates where a clear "majority" of influence campaigns came from. If a majority is unclear, but it is concluded that there were influence operations originating from different countries - multiple answers may be correct. If there is no definitive conclusion in the reports to resolve this question, then it will be voided.

Good day,
I am very interested in this question as a Facebook monitor for groups this is something I have delt with firsthand.
when I see a post that is suspicious, I look for a digital footprint to see what else the account has posted. It usually is very easy to spot.

I agree that it requires multiple answer options.
Misinformation is currently considered one of the greatest short-term global risks. We need more questions about it since AI is obviously exponentially increasing it.
